satis&fy with BAP on Anniversary Tour
Since the 18th of May, BAP has been on tour in Germany. An additional 15 shows are set to follow in summer, and 26 shows are planned for autumn and winter.
40 years of history and a new studio album released in January gives the band a reason to come back on stage. Through the month of December, the band - which currently goes by the name ‘Niedeckens BAP’ - is slated to perform their top hits from 1976 to 2016 in Germany’s halls. The tour’s lighting and stage design comes courtesy of the creative minds from CUE Design, while satis&fy has been tasked with the technical and constructional implementation.
The visual design speaks for itself, via a custom-built 120m² back wall for the stage. What first appears to have been mapped, turns out to be custom construction. To develop the stunning aesthetic, 40 cubes (1.70 x 1.70 meters) were made up of theater laths, screwed together and covered with projection film and gauzes in Werne. “Every cube is supposed to represent one year of the band’s history. Through the different depths of the cubes, we designed an attention-grabbing construction that speaks for itself - even if there is no video projected on it,” lighting and stage designer Peter Seifert from CUE Design explains.
During the show, content was shown on all cubes through two 30,000 Ansi LUMEN projectors. Examples of projected content were visuals from the band’s rich, 40-year history, and live images supplied by five high-performance HD-cameras. “The pictures are placed very differently on the cubes. Therefore, something new is always generated,” Seifert explains.
The visual impact was strengthened through the giant light array. Moving lights Mac Aura XB and Mac Viper from Martin in large quantities as main lights are in action, as well as the spotlights VL500 Wash from Vari*Lite, and 4-lite Blinder from Major for the highlights.
