To make this happen, Nike not only developed new products for the Kenyan athlete and tailored them to her needs, but also organized an event worthy of the occasion. With its comprehensive expertise as a one-stop solution partner for Nike, satis&fy was a driving force behind this historic event. It is an achievement we are proud of on many levels and for many reasons.
When the first man ran the so-called Dream Mile in 1954, women were still generally excluded from this sporting competition. A mile was considered too strenuous for women, and the 4-minute mile was already considered a “barrier” – insurmountable – even for men. With this information in mind, it becomes clear what monumental significance the “Breaking4” event in Paris had. Faith and Nike have set a milestone in the truest sense of the word. A statement about ambition, motivation, strength, and dreams that are within reach.
On race day, the stadium itself seemed like a dream. From the stands to the infield to the turf, the Stade Charléty was ablaze in purple – Faith’s iconic signature color. It was more than a sight to behold, it was a breath of revolution – just like Faith’s vision itself. Unexpected, incomparable, never seen before. A world for an exceptional athlete and an international platform for a record attempt. To achieve this, satis&fy gave its all, from logistics and technical equipment to scenic design, the stage in the interior, and the design of the entrance area and entrance tunnel. Many hours of work for four minutes of action.
– Lena Wingenfeld, Project Manager at satis&fy.
satis&fy was responsible for the technology and logistics surrounding the live event, including the purple stadium exterior, the specially constructed grandstands for invited guests, which were located directly on the track and thus closer to the action, the network infrastructure for the live stream, which was realized by Box to Box and broadcast globally, the green rooms, and the offices. Special attention was paid to the “Innovation Tunnel,” the entrance area of the stadium, where the Nike technologies used for the first time for Faith were explained.
So there was also plenty of sporting effort and teamwork on the fringes of “Breaking4.” Whether it was the tongue-in-cheek internal competition to reach the daily step target or the cross-departmental solidarity in tricky situations: when a severe thunderstorm threatened to disrupt the event setup on the evening before the race, the entire team formed a human chain to quickly bring weights to the tents to weigh them down. At the same time, the Innovation Tunnel was protected from rain with sandbags and fabric remnants, and the lawn banner was additionally secured. The special atmosphere of the event was already palpable during the preparations.
Faith didn’t run alone; she had her pacers, coaches, her team, her nation and fans as well as women from all over the world behind her. That’s how it works. That’s how ambition becomes magic becomes reality. Together. On and off the track. Speaking of female empowerment and teamwork, satis&fy had a total of 168 crew members on site at peak times. The project management team, which included eight women, was instrumental in making the event a success. And although it didn’t work out this time with the dream mile, we are sure that a woman will achieve it sometime in the future. Because we know from experience that the most ambitious ideas become reality when you work together to achieve them.
