Purple Disco Machine at Dresdner Zwinger

Beats meet Barock

After four years of restoration: The Dresden Zwinger is back! Not only is the location iconic, but so is the artist who reopened it. That honor went to Dresden native Tino Piontek, aka Purple Disco Machine, who officially delivered an incredible performance in front of thousands of fans and against an impressive backdrop.

As the audio technical service provider, this meant one thing above all else for us: providing sound and protection. Starting with the logistics: small trucks, narrow access roads, and the utmost care regarding the floors, lawns, and the historic structures surrounding the site (park benches, streetlights, etc.)—extraordinary venues demand attentiveness and experience.

Where historic exhibits meet electronic beats, a special touch is naturally required when it comes to audio planning and setup.

Historical is iconic

Several months before the concert series began, experts from satis&fy were on site to measure the impact of the sound on exhibits, residents, and buildings during a test setup of the PA system. Prior to that, the 3D sound simulations created by audio designer Eike Brameier of 040audio had been reviewed by an acoustics firm.

We opted for the L-Acoustics L2 system for the main and delay sound reinforcement. This means maximum output toward the audience and maximum cancellation toward the monuments.

The Zwinger is a venue that hasn’t traditionally been associated with electro beats. The Purple Disco Machine concerts were the first events of this kind there. That might change now, because

  • Audience: Hyped.
  • Organizers: Happy.
  • Exhibits: Intact.

A resounding success—but not in the literal sense, thanks to meticulous planning.
