SkyArena

Multimedia staging of the Frankfurt city skyline

The 45-minute multimedia production focuses on the skyscraper backdrop of the city of Frankfurt for the opening of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™.

In close cooperation with Atelier Markgraph and lighting designer Gunther Hecker from CUE Design, the lighting specialists from satis&fy developed an implementation concept for the required lighting and control technology.

The city as a stage

A light and media show transformed the city skyline into an outsize stage for football images that travelled the world. A dazzling cavalcade of over 500 pictures, projected onto eight high-rise banks, took spectators on an eleven-stage journey through footballs great emotions, accompanied by a specially-composed soundtrack. Before the tournament even began, SkyArena made Frankfurt the unofficial World Cup capital. Around one million people watched the Miracle of the Main live, and 182 TV stations broadcast the spectacle to almost 100 countries.

A complex technical and organisational task

For the SkyArena, 86 Space Cannons Ireos Pro 7KW, 40 Coemar Super Cycs 2.4 KW were used, which were controlled decentrally via 19 Wholehog IPC control panels. This also means that 19 operators were active.

In addition, there were some VariLite VL500 washlights, various stepped lenses, 50 EXPOLITE PowerLED sticks and various lamps for path and area illumination.

In addition, satis&fy was also awarded the contract for the video part of the production, which was integrated into the show at short notice. Here, a live show act had to be transmitted onto a 15m wide and 22m high projection surface.

For this, in addition to 3 SONY Triax camera units, four Folsom Screen Shapers and a Folsom Encore unit, a double twin projection with a total of 4 Digital Projection LIGHTNING 30sx+ large-screen video projectors was used.
