NIKE EVENT FOR VOMERO 18

NIKE PRESENTS NEW RUNNING SHOE IN SPAIN

Pit stop in Sitges: Nike chose a historic race track near Barcelona to unveil the Vomero 18 | satis&fy implemented Mutant’s concept at a speed that was appropriate for the setting

The new Vomero 18 was unveiled by running. Nike presented its new road running shoe in Sitges near Barcelona under the motto “Never not running”.

The goal? It was mainly the journey: running, jogging, doing laps. And all this on the historic “Autodromo” racetrack, which, surrounded by pine trees, is not only beautifully located but was originally intended for racing cars. It was the perfect place to put the Vomero’s asphalt cushioning through its paces. The participants repeatedly hit the track again and again to compete against each other in gamified challenges. Meanwhile, the rooms under the main grandstand served as a plenary, breakout, and exhibition area.

THE CREW: AHEAD OF THE GAME

Not only were the runners fast, but so was the crew. In record time, satis&fy transformed the race track facility together with local and international partners based on the idea and vision of Nike and Mutant. Due to the short preparation time, it was a huge advantage that we could rely on a wealth of in-house experience in scenic design and technology for Nike. Many of the crew members who were on site in Sitges also work regularly on major retail campaigns at the House of Innovation Paris (Nike flagship store) and therefore know exactly what is important.

In addition to first-class technicians and constructors coordinated by satis&fy, the support provided by Habegger, a satis&fy sister company from the Live Matters Group, in the department of show calling was also invaluable. In total, almost 50 experts from various locations within the Live Matters Group came together to make the project a success.

“ It’s always great to see how much our customers and us ourself benefit from having a big ‘freelancer family’ to draw on.Not only because it allows us to implement projects at short notice without having to find additional staff elsewhere, but also because the crew members have known each other for a long time and trust each other. They support each other across disciplines without having to discuss it. That saves time and effort.” Lena Wingenfeld, Project Manager at satis&fy.

PACE, PROGRESS, AND PERFORMANCE

The location in Sitges was not only special, but also particularly challenging. There was no infrastructure in place for events of this size. The first order of business was therefore to take care of the internet, power supply, and heating. Once the basics were in place, it was time for the magic to happen. And this was created in particular by the lighting installation directly at the racetrack. The racetrack was lined with 200 lamps from Cameo, which became brighter and darker in rhythmic waves. The pulsating light wound its way around the track like a glowing ribbon, motivating the runners to complete even more laps.

Meanwhile, the area under the grandstand was divided into three sections. Anyone familiar with Nike knows that it’s always as much about history as it is about innovation. Accordingly, a space was reserved for the history and development of the Vomero. The striking hero element was the podium on which the new shoe was presented. Built entirely of wood, but with a special ultra-matte finish in a cushion look to match the shoe, it created a fitting stage for the Vomero 18, whose unique selling point is maximum cushioning for runners. Precise craftsmanship was required for the integrated VOMERO logo in order to adapt the lettering to the curved shape of the pedestal. A built-in screen in the center completed the staging.

Directly adjacent to the showroom was the main room with a stage for keynotes and workshops. The impressive 20x4m ROE LED wall came from satis&fy’s own inventory. A third room offered space for one-on-one sessions, changing rooms, and a smaller speaker area, which was also equipped by satis&fy. satis&fy developed an innovative solution for the suspended truss constructions. Due to the lack of suspension points, a special bracket was designed that allowed the trusses to be attached directly between the numerous concrete columns. A sustainable and reusable solution that can be flexibly adapted to almost any column diameter – perfect for future productions as well.

AN EVENT WITH CHARISMA

A total of 3,000 kilometers were run in Sitges – that’s about 1,500 laps in just under two days. One runner stood out in particular, contributing almost 70 km (36 laps) on his own. Respect. But the event didn’t just shine among the participants. Throughout the event, there were heated discussions in various local Facebook groups about what the pulsating red light on the horizon could be. The answer: an energetic event that all participants and crew members will surely remember for a long time to come – even when the muscle soreness has long since subsided.
